The Ramayana series aired on Doordarshan set a world record and became the most watched serial.

Amid a state of lockdown across the country due to the Corona virus, the government rebroadcast Ramanand Sagar's Ramayana series on television which has set a world record. A tweet from the official Twitter handle of the national channel announced that the re-broadcast of Ramayana on April 16 with a viewership of 77 million viewers has become the most watched entertainment serial in the world.

People across the country are currently under house arrest due to the Corona virus and no new episodes of the serial have been aired on TV since March 17 as shooting of TV serials, films and web series has stopped. In addition, people have been demanding re-broadcast of Ramayana for a long time so the central government decided to re-broadcast Ramayana during the lockdown.

People are liking mythological serials like Ramayana and Mahabharata very much and its episodes and scenes are getting a lot of discussion on social media. Due to the re-broadcast of Ramayana, its main characters Arun Govil, Deepika Chikhalia, Sunil Lahari and Arvind Trivedi have once again come under discussion and they seem to be very excited by the love reactions of the people.

The day the first episode of Ramayana aired, 17 million (one crore, 70 lakh) people enjoyed it. Apart from that, other serials including Buniyad, Shaktiman, Mr. Smt. And Dekh Bhai Dekh are also doing very well in the TRP case. While private channels are showing viewers older episodes.
