Indirect promotion of dowry in government ad for Akshay Kumar's airbag

- Criticism showered on the actor

- Internet protests against add released by Ministry of Transport: demand withdrawal

Mumbai: Actor Akshay Kumar's air bag ad has drawn a backlash with allegations that it has indirectly promoted dowry. This ad is requested to be withdrawn.

The ad was posted on social media by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. In it, Akshay Kumar arrives in the guise of a police officer on the occasion of a bachelorette party. He tells the bride's father that he will have to cry if he sees his daughter off in such a car. When the daughter's father describes the latest features of the car, Akshay Kumar tells him that this car does not have an airbag in the back seat, so the lives of the daughter and her husband are in danger.

After this ad was published, protests against it have started. People are commenting on social media that although the intention behind the ad is good, it also conveys the message that a father should gift a latest car to his daughter in marriage. Hence this ad should be withdrawn. At least any government ad should not promote dowry indirectly.

Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has also demanded that this ad should be withdrawn.

Akshay Kumar often appears in such government advertisements. People have also criticized him and commented that he should have taken care of this aspect while making the ad.
