Disappointment among multiplex and studio owners excluding cinemas in Unlock Four

The restrictions imposed by Co Rona are gradually being lifted. Cinemas have not been allowed to resume operations, according to Unlock Four guidelines issued by the government's home ministry. However, films are allowed to be shown in open air theaters from September 21. The government's decision has caused frustration among multiplex and studio owners.

The Multiplex Association of India has written to the government asking it to reconsider its decision. Theater owners have been suffering huge losses since the lockdown was imposed in March. The theater owners said they were ready to take all measures to protect their patrons. But his struggle to survive has now been extended as the government has not allowed him to open a theater. This is a new blow to the multiplex chain as filmmakers choose to release their films on OTT platforms as theaters are closed due to the lockdown.

A few films were released on OTT platforms during the lockdown but a few filmmakers postponed releasing their films in the hope of opening theaters. His condition is now worse. Shibashish Sarkar, GP CEO of Reliance Entertainment, whose films are ready to be released in Suryavanshi and 3 theaters, said the decision to exclude cinemas from the Unlock Four was "disappointing and irrational". The number of corona cases in the country has gone up from 200 to 50,000 and cinemas had no hand in it. Because it has been closed for six months.

Businesses across the country have opened up except for one sector. Cinemas have also opened and are running successfully in most countries of the world. The industry has been running at zero revenue for the last six months in India. A total loss of Rs 5,000 crore has been incurred. We have been requesting the government for grants and subsidies for the last six months but to no avail.

Recently, the Hollywood movie Tenet has been released in the countries where cinemas are running.

Akshay Rathi, owner, film screener and distributor of the single screen theater chain, said the theater industry employs 1.5 million people and their families. Multiplex chains may survive once because of their financiers, but single screen theaters are in dire straits. For six months we spend from our savings. If we are given any relief, it is okay for us to wait until we find the corona vaccine.

Regarding the government's decision to open open-air theaters, the exhibitor said there was no space left for it in metro cities. Producer Manoj Desai said the government's decision was "strange" as open air theaters remained. Multiplex chain malls, on the other hand, are urging owners to pay the monthly rent during the period when theaters were closed.

"We hoped that the theaters would open in September and the audience would gradually return to the theaters by Diwali," said Sharik Patel, CEO, Zee Studios. But now it is difficult to say anything. We were ready to release our film Khalipipili in cinemas but now we have to change the program.

Filmmaker Ramesh Taurani said that our business is going at a loss but this is an unprecedented time. In which the safety of every citizen is paramount. Filmmaker Bonnie Kapoor said, "When theaters open, I want to release films in them." We should all support cinemas. I also respect the decision of the government. Which has been taken with the safety of the patrons in mind. Theaters should be opened when they feel safe.

Lockdown hits cinema exhibition industry by Rs 9,000 crore

Cinema lovers are frustrated by the lack of entertainment due to the closure of cinemas due to the lockdown imposed following the outbreak of the Koro epidemic, which has also hit the cinema exhibition industry by an estimated Rs 2,000 crore. Employment has also declined due to the closure of cinemas.

Alok Tandon, CEO of Inox Leisure, a leading company in the field of movie exhibitions, said that the exhibition industry was collecting Rs 1,000 crore at the box office every month. And another Rs 500 crore in revenue every month. The total loss to the exhibition industry due to the lockdown is estimated at Rs 5,000 crore. Shooting of films is also closed as there is no scope to release films due to closure of cinemas.

Due to which related activities like pre and post production work, graphics, film set making, film k, event, marketing etc. have also come to a standstill, Tandon said. The multiplex industry in India directly employs more than two lakh people. And generates 50% of the film business's revenue. Customers who came to see the cinema in the multiplex malls were also going to eat and drink. Now that the multiplex is closed, the food and beverage business has also been affected.

Thus, the current state of the cinema industry is in dire straits due to the Corona epidemic. Which has also led to an increase in unemployment. Now no one can say when the cinema will be throbbing again.
