Mallika Sherawat: 'What can I show on screen different from my real life?'

Mallika Sherawat, who used to harass Twitter users, is now in the spotlight. Mallika lashed out at Twitter users for her films on violence against women, saying "nothing is going to work unless there is a change in the mindset of the people of India towards women." 'Hathras Horror' is bound to become a fearless case. After such comments on Mallika's Twitter, her trolls said that the kind of role she (Mallika) plays in the movie is the exact opposite of what she says.

In this chat, the actress wrote about how she feels that movies and celebrities are known as devils in the society. There has been an increase in sexual violence in society, which is constantly run against women. If we want to make a big difference in society, we have to make a big change in our mindset. Here is a sneak peek of the conversation between Mallika and Twitter users, which will be interesting for readers.

Mallika, how would you respond to your choice of films?

* The reality is that we still focus on movies. Putting a stop to the Internet and Westernization. We consider women's dressing sense to be the cause of rape. Instead of blaming the culprits and their mindset for reflecting the mindset of the people, we do as stated above. Mataji in the temples and the world's first woman Prime Minister who passed away in the country and became a powerful woman in various walks of life, yet there is no respect for women in our society. Sexual harassment is justified by the victim's statement. Such a contradiction has been prevailing. In our society today, atrocities against women are the biggest issue. Even if we don't get out of it, law enforcement alone is not going to solve the problem. There is also a need for a radical change in the thinking of our society.

What you say as an artist does not match your choice of films. A lot of celebrities believe that the entertainment industry can easily tell what is evil and what is wrong in society. What is your opinion about this?

* The hardest truth of our society is that - we make films and wear clothes keeping in mind the invitation of crime. I just feel like this and it needs to change drastically. This is a democratic nation. And you shouldn't watch a movie if you have a problem. This is not the first time that films have been banned. As a society we should ask ourselves if we are not powerful enough if we are not adopting our celebrity titles then who is? And if I do that, I become branded like those who talk more. It seems to be very talkative and it becomes a bad name in the country. As a woman I maintain the necessary silence. We all know that women in India have a long history of violence and that is due to the declining ideology, the generations that have passed. If she is a woman, serving and obeying orders, then it is normal for people to think that. We are progressive - we need to consider people's attitudes and mindsets to ensure this.

Do you think such a change will happen when some beliefs are deeply entrenched in the fabric of our society?

* This should start at home and the elders should teach their sons that the child should be given equal facilities and also with respect. And the girl also has to be financially independent. Education has a long way to go for this change. Of course it will take time. I grew up in a well-educated family, yet I was considered a relatively inferior child.

It is very important to give equal opportunity in this. I have gone through a lot of cycles to get a job. Worked hard. And today it has become my business and because of that I can get what I expect. I have no qualms about the efforts that have been made as a family responsibility.

You used to speak very boldly when you faced many difficulties while trying to get into showbiz, but now a lot has changed in that regard?

* I haven't done films that I don't believe in and so I have lost 50-60 films. How can I do this if I am asked to play a character that is very different from what I am in real life? From the beginning I drew some lines clearly. And I have paid the price by losing those films. Even so, owning one is still beyond the reach of the average person. Not only this, I also get the best opportunities. Today, it seems to me that the industry has become more organized and good films come into the hands of women which is a functional mark.
