- In addition to Ujjain temple priests, business associations too had to withdraw the ad due to strong protests.
Actor Hrithik Roshan has shot himself in the foot by praising Aamir Khan's superflop Lal Singh Chadha. To top it off, he is now embroiled in a food delivery app Mahakal Thalini ad controversy. After the praise of Lal Singh, the trend of boycott of his next film Vikram Veda has started which has now become high after this ad.
In this ad, Hrithik is shown saying that he wanted to eat thali and while he was in Ujjain, he got it from Mahakal.
As soon as this ad was aired, the religious sentiments of the priests, devotees, religious organizations and numerous other devotees of the famous Mahakal temple of Ujjain were affected. The priests of the Mahakal temple have clearly said that Prasad is offered in the Mahakal temple but it is only for consumption in the temple premises. This Prasad is not delivered to anyone. Moreover, this plate of prasad is provided absolutely free of cost. Such commercial use is not justified.
On the other hand, it was defended by the app that they are showing famous restaurants or dishes of different cities in their ads. This ad is displayed only with reference to a dish available at a local restaurant. However, people did not like this defense. Trade associations also demanded legal action against both the app and Hrithik for cheating people in the name of ads. As the controversy escalated, it was finally announced to withdraw this ad.
However, this is unlikely to end Hrithik's woes. People who were teased by the way he praised Lal Singh had already started the trend of boycotting Vikram Veda. Now with the controversy of this ad added to it, the trend of boycott Vikram Veda is being driven more vigorously.
