Ever since the release of the teaser, the filmmakers have been facing first criticism, then trolling and now petitions to block the film's release. A petition seeking a stay on the release of the film Adipurush has been filed in a Delhi court. The petition has alleged that the film has shown a wrong portrayal of Lord Ram and Hanuman.

Before the petition was filed in Delhi, a complaint was filed in Uttar Pradesh against Saif Ali Khan, Kriti Sanon starrer 'Adipurush'. A lawyer from Lucknow approached the court seeking action against the film's actors and producers. According to information received, Lucknow-based lawyer Pramod Pandey filed the complaint before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) on Thursday, making Saif Ali Khan, Prabhas Raghav, Kriti Sanon, producer-director Om Raut and Bhushan Kumar parties. He said that a criminal case under Section 153(3) of the CRPC should be filed against the stars and filmmakers for falsely portraying the characters of Hindu deities, especially Hanuman and Rama.
