Punit Issar : I follow the path of Gitachindhya

The name of veteran actor Punit Issar, who is playing the most important role in one of the popular serials of today, 'Vamsaaj', comes to mind when one remembers Duryodhana from the mythological serial 'Mahabharat' that was released four decades ago. After playing the role of Duryodhana in this serial, Punit Issar was known as Duryodhana for a long time. This artist has learned the importance of life from the role of Duryodhana. This character seems to have changed the direction of his life. The actor himself says that the character of Duryodhana taught me what not to do in life.

Punit Issar is sad that the people of India do not know Hindi and Sanskrit. They say that to keep us enslaved, the British instilled in our minds that our literature, culture, mythology is wrong. After the departure of the British, three-four generations of us were deprived of our true history and original literature as Mughal history was taught in independent India. The mental enslavement of speaking in English persists even today. I am not against the English language, but how come many people do not know the Portuguese language? English is the currency in other countries of the world as well, yet the people there have maintained the respect of their own language. How much the Germans have loved the Sanskrit language. And we ourselves are deprived of the wealth of knowledge that our language contains.'

Actors play a number of characters throughout their career. Some actors are working in three-four films or shows at a time. In such a situation, from what role do they learn what to accept and what to leave in life? But Punit Issar says, 'I learn a lot from my characters. As an artist, when I had to play the character of Duryodhana, I played the role thinking that he was sixteen years old. That is why this role of mine came alive. Yes, I did not miss to learn what I should not do in life from this character. In my opinion we should be lifelong students so that we can keep learning something. I have unwavering faith in Geeta. Gita is the fifth Veda. I walk the Gitachindhya path and will always walk.
