The music for Julie earned Rajesh Roshan his first Filmfare Award

- A song from 'Julie' was written by Bengali actor-lyricist-composer Harindranath Chattopadhyay. As the heroine is a Christian, the lyrics of the song were written in English.

Do it and the girl is in love. Laxmanrekha is missed in Bhavavesh. The girl gets pregnant. A boy has to go away for some reason. The girl's parents are confused. Sends the daughter to another place. A child is born. When the boy returns, the two get together after a bit of a fight. Finish the story. In the 1950s and 60s, there were many films with such a story. The women sitting in the audience shed tears seeing the condition of the girl. Despite having the same story, the films played out for different reasons. Mostly the romantic hero or heroine image of the actors and the song-music playing. Rajesh Roshan's father, musician Roshan himself, made such a film. However, the quality of the story was amazing. In a situation where after the boy returns, the girl who happened to be tawaif invites him to sing there, Roshan gave a memorable song- 'Rahte te kabhi jin ke dil mein hum jaan se bhi pyaron ki tarah, baithe hain unhin ke kooche mein hum aaj gunahgaron ki tarah... (Lyricist: Majrooh Sultanpuri).

A film with a similar story also came in the hands of composer Rajesh Roshan. This is the second film of his career as a musician - 'Julie'. The film's music also won him the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director. Film producer B. Nagi Reddy's film was directed by Sethumadhavan. The lyrics were by Anand Bakshi. Debutant actress Lakshmi Narayan and the same newcomer Vikram were the hero-heroine of this film. This is the first Hindi film of Sridevi, who later became a top actress. There was a slight change here from the previous film with this type of story. Earlier there used to be a difference between rich and poor. Here the hero is a Hindu and the heroine is a Christian.

Interestingly, in 1975, on the one hand, Amitabh Bachchan's 'Deewar', Amitabh, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar and Amjad Khan's 'Sholay', Anita Guha's 'Jai Santoshi Ma', Manoj Kumar's 'Sannyasi', Dev Anand's 'Warrant', Rishi Kapoor's 'Khel Khel'. Amid box-office hits like Main' and 'Rafoochakkar', this newcomer's film also ran and made good money. However, the career of this artist pair could not last very long after that is a different matter.

The music of 'Julie' was very popular. There were five songs, one of which was written by world famous Bengali actor-lyricist-composer Dr. Harindranath Chattopadhyay. Since the heroine is a Christian, the lyrics of this song were written in English. Let us remember again that there have been many Hindi songs with such sentiments. Like 'Dhadakne lagta hai mera dil tere naam se...' or 'Dil dhadak dhadak ke kah raha hai...' etc. Here's a mukhuda of the song given by Harindranath - 'My heart is beating, keeps on repeating...' sung by Rajesh in the romantic raga Pahadi. The heroine was filmed singing the song in her house, first with her father (actor Om Prakash) and then with all her relatives. The best gesture in this song was from character actor Om Prakash. Being a singer with Lata, Asha, Suman Kalyanpur etc. but being a very new actress here, perhaps, the composer gave this song to Preity Sagar. Preity won the Filmfare Award for Best Playback Singer Female category. Many people's eyebrows went up at that time. A little mumbled too.

Anand Bakshi gave a slightly odd song lyrically - 'Dil Kya Kare, Jab Kisi Ko Kisi Se Pyar Ho Jaye...' Rajesh Roshan started it with Sada Suhaagin Ragini Bhairavi and later tried Raag Dhani. Besides the congo-bongo as a rhythmic instrument, Rajesh created a predictable effect through guitar chords. Kishore Kumar's voice is full of life in the song. The entire song has become Hridayangam.

The musician has made another experiment in club songs. A song based on Raga Pahadi in six measure Dadra Taal has been rendered in Latana's voice. The lyrics of the song are played as young couples dance in a club - 'Yeh Raatein Nayi Purani, Aate Aate Kahti Hai Koi Kahani...' The cinematography and music blend together like milk and sugar.

Aur Ek is a romantic song (though slightly weaker compared to other songs in the film) sung by Lata and Kishore Kumar. This song became very popular when the movie 'Bhool Gaya Sab Kuch, Yaad Nahi Ab Kuch...' was released.

The hero's mother (Achla Sachdev) and sister (Rita Bhaduri) sing bhajans in the house temple before Radhakrishna's moot, while the heroine, dressed in a short skirt and blouse similar to those worn by Christian girls, takes the hero home, and the heroine Mugdhabhava enjoys the bhajan. The song 'Sancha Tera Naam Tu Shyam Mera...' is sung by Usha Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. Here the lyricist has interwoven the words in such a way that the words can be applied to both the beloved in the mind of the heroine and Ishtadev in the mind of the mother daughter. This bhajan has been performed in Saumya Tarjalaya.

'Julie' won four Filmfare Awards - Best Music, Best Heroine, Best Playback Singer (Female) and Best Supporting Actress Nadira. Among the big cast and big budget films, the film Julie celebrated its silver jubilee and Rajesh Roshan's success as a composer. On the issue of his getting the Filmfare Award, his mentor musicians Laxmikant-Pyarelal and contemporary senior musicians Kalyanji-Anandji also applauded Rajesh with sportsmanship.
