A film starring Ka Tak Aryan called 'Dhamaka' was released directly on OTT. There was talk of its creator Ram Madhwani selling the film to Netflix with a huge profit. The film Yaad Reh came before 'Bhulbhulaiya - Two'. Some said that 'Dhamaka' was sold for 85 crores, some said for 135 crores. Until recently films used to earn strong profits from music rights, then satellite rights etc. Now it is the turn of OTT, which is a very important profit machine for the film business after box office.

Nothing like that happened. The film did less than 59 crore business in India. Overseas income less than sixty crores. Total less than 130 crores. What could be a worse outcome for a 180 crore film with a dependable superstar like Aamir? Also, the box office kicked in that the OTT price was drastically reduced. But as far as success-failure is concerned, there are early reports that 'Lal Singh Chadha' is performing well on OTT.

After this film was released on Netflix on October 5th, people are watching it avidly in the country and abroad. Numerous viewers are pouring messages on social media praising the film. On the other hand, Shreyas Talpade's 'Kaun Praveen Tambe' was quietly released. The film became a success through word of mouth only because of its quality. It has been viewed more than two crore times. The presence of stars on OTT can give a good start, but in the end the film itself speaks. Abhishek Bachchan's 'Dasveen', Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal's 'Sharmaji Namkeen', Vidya Balan and Shefali Shah's 'Jalsa' etc. are the films which got more than one crore viewers due to star power and relatively good making. Even though Alia Bhatt's 'Dalags' was a hit, its number of viewers could not cross one crore. There are other films whose situations despite being stars have not been much appreciated.

Let's talk about 'RRR'. Before its Hindi version came on OTT, it was watched 64 crore minutes in 24 hours. Other language versions and its views differ. The film was trending on Netflix for 14 consecutive weeks, which shows a huge success. Even after that, it remained trending for five weeks. 'Katakey 2' had 89 crore view minutes in the first 24 hours after its release. The next day he crossed 100 crore minutes. The way the film was a hit at the box office, it also hit OTT. 'Gangubai Kathiawadid also played dunko on OTT. It remained at the top for six-seven consecutive weeks at the global level. It was watched more than five and a half million hours.

Indian views and foreign views are also different in terms of success and failure on OTT. As often as we watch movies there, we also watch them abroad. It is also the case that different OTT platforms give the details of how many views, how many hours or how many minutes a movie has been watched in different ways. Many OTT platforms do not even disclose the details. Over time this system will be perfected so we will know more accurately how the movie performed and how the movie missed on OTT.

After the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, his last film 'Dil Bechara', which came directly on OTT, broke several records. Ninety and a half crore people watched that film.

Ajay Devgn's film 'Bhuj' was viewed only 36 lakh times on OTT. Taapsee Pannuwali's 'Hasin Dilruba' has been viewed only 32 lakh times.

Akshay Kumar's 'Katputali' may not be buzzy, but after its release it was viewed five crore times. It was the most successful OTT Hindi film in the month of September.

Yami Gautam's straight to OTT film 'A Thursday' was viewed more than two and a half crore times on OTT. His praises were also good.

One film which achieved extraordinary success on OTT is 'Sardar Udham'. The film starring Vicky Kaushal also garnered the highest number of viewers. The number, however, is hard to know.
