Varun Grover is one such lucky man. He is best known as a stand-up comedian. He is a lyricist, script and dialogue writer and now he has also made his directorial debut with the film 'All India Rank'. Varun wrote 'O Womania' and 'Hunter' in 'Gangs of Vasse Pur', 'Jabra Fan' for 'Fan' and the National Award winning song 'Moh Moh Ke Dhage' for Ayushmann Khurrana-Bhumi Pednekar's 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha'. . Apart from this, he has also penned for the film 'Masaan' and the web show 'Sacred Games'. Shefali Shah's film 'Three of Us', which was released on OTT, also has the same dialogues. Last year, Varun did a solo tour across India as a stand-up comedian.

Says Varun Grover, 'Directing was a speechless and overwhelming experience for me, as I am used to working alone as a writer. I was scared to see 80 people on the set on the first day. However over time it became a team work and I started enjoying my work. Secondly, I have wanted to do a standup tour of India since many times, but kakin baat kuch jam nahi rahi thi. I am happy that last year that wish also came true.'

Varun is known for his political sarcasm and satire and has also been a victim of venomous trolling for this. Once he was trolled badly even for applying nail polish. Asked about this, the comedian says, 'Same video clip ke liye muze tarif aur gali donon milte hain. Muze lagta hai ki kuch log subah ko uthute haiin aur sochate hai ki aaj kis ko gali den? Aur Koi Nahi Milta To Muz Jaise Comedians Ko Dhundha Lete Hain. Well, stand up comedians are a soft target for trolls, because as artists we have a log naam leke baat hain and we speak on current issues so our trolling starts as soon as the video goes viral. It's an occupational hazard, which we have to bear, that's why I don't read many comments on social media lately.'

Talking about it, Varun Grover says, 'Everyone is making shows today, which immediately grabs the attention of the audience, so we see a lot of thrillers. Comedy and drama have been left in it. We started the 'Sacred Games' series so I am guilty of that too. Lakin ab sab wahi kar rah hai, it has become a pattern.'
